Pretty stressful, not getting your steak in time. Thank goodness he wasn't packing.

Good guy in Texas held up at cash machine. In Texas you are allowed to shoot someone dead after they steal 200 dollars.
The suspect in the shooting, identified by police as Tony Earls, 41, was making a transaction at a drive-thru ATM at 2900 Woodridge Dr. in southeastern Houston with his wife Monday shortly before 10 p.m. when he was robbed at gunpoint, according to police.

"Earls first shot at the robbery suspect, who was fleeing on foot, and then at a pickup truck he thought the robbery suspect had gotten into," police said.

A 9-year-old girl died after a man who was held up at a Houston ATM fired at her family's pickup truck while attempting to shoot the robbery suspect, police said.

You are not going to ever collect much of the guns. This article outlines that you need to prosecute shootings better.

The number of Americans who died from firearms surpassed those who died in car accidents for the first time in 2017, according to a new far-reaching report on gun violence.

The report, released Wednesday by Democratic members of the congressional Joint Economic Committee (JEC), found that nearly 40,000 people were killed in the U.S. by a gun, including approximately 2,500 school-age children.

“That is over 100 people per day and more than five children killed each day,” the report stated.

What the fuck took so long?
Senate passes Emmett Till Antilynching Act of 2022, sending bill to Biden for his signature

The Senate passed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act of 2022 on Monday night by unanimous consent. The bill, which would make lynching a federal hate crime, now heads to President Joe Biden's desk for his signature.

The legislation was approved by the House of Representatives last week by a vote of 422-3. Passage of the bill is a long-sought goal of advocates, who have been working for years to secure its approval in Congress.

"After more than 200 failed attempts to outlaw lynching, Congress is finally succeeding in taking the long overdue action by passing the Emmett Till Antilynching Act. Hallelujah. It's long overdue," said Majority Leader Chuck Schumer in remarks on the Senate floor after the bill's passage.
That it took so long to pass is a "bitter stain" on America, the New York Democrat added.

"The first antilynching legislation was introduced a century ago, and after so long, the Senate has now finally addressed one of the most shameful elements of this nation's past by making lynching a federal crime," he said.
The three House members who voted against are: If you don't recognize these names, I've linked to stories that highlight their "unique" contributions. They give new meaning to the term "member" of Congress. :coffee:

What happens to young Emmett Till was such a terrible and appalling thing, made more so not just by the fact that the perpetrators got away with it easily, but that they felt vindicated and personally traded off their crimes.

That's some context for the three Stooges listed.

I'm not a fan of hate crime legislation. Lynching was already illegal, it's murder, and carries the penalty for murder. But if it makes people feel better about themselves then go for it, I guess. Seems like virtue signaling to me, but what do I know?
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Me neither, but some signals really are virtuous, and long overdue.
