The new normal for presidents is 2 years. Aside from the 100 days to undo your predecessor.

They reposted all the old stories

WASHINGTON—In a press conference addressing the community of Uvalde, TX, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell reportedly urged those affected Thursday to get their crying done now because he wouldn’t be passing shit. “Go ahead and shed some tears, trot out the families of the victims, do whatever the fuck you’re going to do, and then we’re going to go back to pretending none of this happened,” said McConnell, urging the nation to go online and post whatever little impassioned rants or photographs of the bereaved they had, since he and his fellow lawmakers had decided their response to all of this would continue to be absolutely fucking nothing. “And yes, we know the parents of the victims will be burying 19 young children in the coming few weeks. Seriously, none of it matters to us. I don’t know how to make it any clearer. We simply couldn’t care less.” At press time, McConnell had returned to the podium to add that his thoughts and prayers were, of course, with the community and the grieving families.

Heard Greg Abbott talking about mental illness and hiw mass shootings were rare didn't happen all the time, and I thought that the mental health issue around guns and gunning is a societal condition - a kind of mass psychosis that implicitly accepts that school shootings might be very rare but they're somehow still a perfectly normal part of a child's life. How can you make a school a place of safety if the community it serves isn't a safe place to live?

The cowardly, yellow-bellied cops stayed outside for an hour and twenty minutes, while kids were being shot. While 911 calls were coming in from the fucking classrooms. While the gunman methodically murdered little children. I don't have words for how utterly fucking despicable that behavior is. Makes me want to puke. I hope they charge the fucking assholes like they did the cowardly, yellow-bellied Deputy at Parkland. Big, tough cops, eh? Good for beating and killing unarmed citizens, but an armed opponent? Not so much, evidently. Pussy-ass motherfuckers.

But we don't need guns for self-protection, because we can call 911 and the Boys In Blue will be there momentarily, to put us in a body bag.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I'd be afraid to call 911. If shooting is happening, cops will arrive with more shooting, and they DO have the AR15s.

lak, that thing about the police response may well be true, and if so, there should be consequences. However, it doesn't change the argument that something should be done to prevent further tragedies. Even with a prompter police response, many kids would still have died.

Without unrealistic steps (such as banning assault rifles for sale to civilians), there seems to be two possible avenues (or a combination of both)

One involves longer wait times before a gun purchase, and more thorough background checks. Not perfect, but statistically, it should reduce the number of mass shooting fatalities.

The other option is making all US schools mini fortresses, with armed guards and/or armed teachers... (although knowing some of the teachers I worked with, I shudder at the latter - "Jones, you little arsehole, you've annoyed me one too many times. Bang...)

Which option do you prefer?

Trump criticised gun-control advocates as "a grotesque effort by some in our society to use the suffering of others to advance their own extreme political agenda.” I think one calls that psychological projection.

Black Lt Governor rants about guns. Guns most black people can't afford. Black youth who are 18 keep getting hand guns, then getting arrested. They don't have the money for AR-15s

In US, home schooling. Also, for politicians, mental health check-ups by non-US professionals before running for office.

One thing is to stop treating 18 year olds like adults. They're not. The frontal lobes aren't mature until the mid-20s. Stop selling them weapons. Stop letting them sign exploitive student loan contracts. And for god's sake stop letting them fucking vote.

I'm sure everyone knows my stance on assault weapons, that horse is out of the barn, There are 10s of millions of them out there, and that's just the legal ones.

Where did this kid get the money to buy somewhere around 5Gs worth of weapons and ammo? From all reports he didn't work, and was (according to some other kids) bullied for being poor, yet he had a late model pick up and expensive weapons. Somebody bankrolled this kid and they need to be held responsible too.

Better background checks, better police response, better school security, these are probably the best we're going to do.

As for home schooling, public school enrollments are in free fall. Private school enrollments is exploding, as is home schooling. I think there are a lot of reasons for that, but safety is a primary one.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Home schoolers are:
90% religious/right wing nuts
10% parents of brillian kids who do not fit in.

I consider myself semibrilliant, and can't say I enjoyed other kids in school. But it was doable. I liked most teachers.

Woman proves you don't need AR-15. Shoots dude with one, using hand gun.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-61615236

More:
According to WCHS-TV (Bob Aaron), Butler was a convicted felon, and was thus not legally allowed to own guns. In principle, perhaps he might still have been stopped by (say) a law requiring background checks, which would likely have stopped law-abiding sellers from selling him the gun; but it's not clear whether someone with his criminal record would have much been stymied by that, as opposed to just buying a gun on the black market. Chief Hazelett reported in the video interview that the woman was legally allowed to carry (in West Virginia any law-abiding adult 21 and above can carry a concealed weapon without the need for a license).

Marge Greene says the best solution to stop school shootings it to have volunteer armed parent militias patrolling schools after the federal ‘Gun Free School Zones Act’ is repealed.
