Holy shit indeed. Oh, yeah, it's grizzly bears that don't climb. Black bears climb trees just fine thank you very much.

Prolly good idea to have some bear spray witcha.

The bear wasn't physically positioned to make an attack. The tree stand was too small to accommodate the both of them. And, the bear would have had to let go of the tree to grab or swat at the hunter.

I am struck by how similar to dogs are bears (and bears to dogs). My dog in particular--they are very much like each other.

Bears are just big teddies according to piss-cat-ohr.

Restaurant [Shiloh Brew and Chew] Owner: ‘Guns Are Welcome’ Signs Have Helped Boost Business July 22, 2014
A restaurant owner has seen more customers frequent her business after she posted a “Guns are Welcome” sign on the front door of her family-friendly establishment.

“As the owner, I wanted to stand my ground. I have that constitutional right. If you like it, that’s great, if you don’t, I’m sorry for you. I can’t change who I am,” Sharma Floyd, with Shiloh Brew and Chew, told WBIR.

Floyd explained that she was inspired to post the sign at her restaurant after reading a story about a restaurant in North Carolina.

“They had put up a sign that said ‘No Weapons Allowed’ and they were robbed at gunpoint two days later. The convenience store manager was shot,” Floyd shared with WBIR. “And that got me thinking. I lost a whole group of motorcyclists because they thought I didn’t allow weapons. But I believe it’s ok to carry as long as you have a permit.”

Floyd stated that more than 20 new customers have come to eat at her Southern style restaurant since she posted the signs.

“I can honestly say I’ve gotten way more support than the one person who really gave me a lot of grief over it,” she told WBIR.

Bears are solitary hunters, not pack animals. They don't cooperate with each other, much less other species. They're smart, and often reasonable, but they're not dogs, and they have no particular love for us.

I've been that close to blackies. Had a 5-footer touch my knee with his nose before he flipped out and shot off through the blueberries....I was hiking up the trail along Lost Creek #2 up to Lost Lake when I stopped to blow and saw the wet bushes parting about 50 yards away in a hollow. I thought it might be my neighbor's black Lab, which is what I always think in the first instant I see a blackie in my neighborhood (I walk from my house to the trail). I hadn't got above treeline yet, and was still in the thick spruce/hemlock rainforest on this rainy day. The bear was buried in the highbush blueberry/cranberry understory, and working his way up to the trail I was on. All I could see was the parting brush. I just stood there, and popped the Butler Creek scope covers on my trusty BAR 30-06. I was moose hunting, and headed to a glassing spot on the edge of the high country about a mile ESE of Lost Lake, Ak.
I think the little bear intended to go through my camoflaged legs, then realized this was supposed to be the dirt trail. He touched the cloth of my pants and looked up before he stopped. We made eye contact, and he lit out like a puppy on a tile floor, finally gaining traction as he made turns for 40 knots... I laughed. One of those great outdoor things I'll always remember.

Turkey hunting from a tree stand? I call bullshit. Or unsportsmanlike conduct at minimum.

Ever tried hunting turkey? Smart little fellers. Ben Franklin thought they should be the national symbol because of their intelligence and wariness.

I'I didn't grow up in Alaska. I grew up in Mississippi, the finest turkey hunting in the world.
When I was 17, I had to pay a large fine in April for being in possession of 19 fresh turkey beards (3 was the annual limit, and the season ran until May). I later went on to calling up and killing 3 Eastern wild turkeys, and 5 Rio Grande and at least 1 Merriam's on camera in a series of bowhunting videos for both Indian Archery and Primos. I was also in 10 or so successful video deer hunts in Mississippi and Mariposa, Tx, mostly for the Indian Archery crew in the 80s.

Turkeys shot from deer stands are targets of opportunity in places where it is legal to kill them during other seasons. Alabama, for instance, has a fall turkey season that overlaps some of deer season. 99 percent of fall turkeys in Alabama are murdered with rifles by deer hunters in tree stands. Why? Because it takes a lot of miles to locate a fall flock, a lot of work to bust it, a lot of time to wait 3 hours if you bust the flock early enough in the day or drive back before daylight the next day if you didn't, and a lot of skill to trick an old hen or tom into shotgun range with an assembly call.
If that's not tricky enough, try hunting gobblers in the spring. Most people take years to kill their first gobbler in the spring, as a tom turkey usually sets up a lek and the hens come to him. It's rare in nature that dominant toms go to hen calls., and it's even rarer for a neophyte hunter to have his game sharp enough to close the deal when the opportunity presents itself.

Shooting turkeys with a rifle or knocking them out of trees with a shotgun? Immoral. :|~

Who doesn't love a big ol' bear? :hugs:

The Dene (Athabascan/Navajo/Dena'ina) word for black bear is tsah. The word for brown bear is tsacho, which is almost the same as thacho their word for "fisherman", and nacho, their word for certain a flavor of Doritos.

(On the original of the video you posted, you can clearly see a bait barrel in the closing seconds. He was obviously hunting blackies over bait from his ladder stand. :dunno: )

It's about time you gave up, you never had an argument in the first place.

This decision absolutely enjoins DC from enforcing a carry/possession ban, although it may (and is encouraged) to create a rational licensing system that complies with the constitutional decisions mentioned in the holding, and that's as of July 24, 2014, so DC police can no longer arrest people for carrying handguns in public, at all.

However, the language says that the individual must have actual knowledge of the order, which means that if you carry in DC you MUST carry a printed copy of the ruling and present it to any police officer who stops you.

This is the death-knell of the anti-gun movement and bans on lawful concealed carry everywhere. While not binding outside of DC at the moment, it will certainly be cited in other districts and will eventually be either reviewed by the SCOTUS or SCOTUS will decline cert and it will become law nationwide.

We win! :cheer: :swoon: :ab:   :hehe: :drunk:  :console:

I told you so...and told you...and told you...and told you so... :prof:
