The reason for criminal on criminal violence is pretty simple: they cannot go to the civil authorities to settle their disputes.
Given that simple truism, it's to be expected that violence amongst criminal elements of society will always be higher than violence amongst the law-abiding citizens of any country.

In Melbourne's recent decade of underworld shootings, it was the big boys that were getting knocked off, either by other hands-on big boys, or by their appointed shooters. Not enough guns in Oz for lower level crims to have them - they just bash each other...

Yup. And it pisses me off when Netwits use criminal-on-criminal gun violence, which comprises the vast majority of shootings, particularly of black inner city young adults that gun-banners like to categorize as "children" to bolster their fake numbers, as an argument for disarming law abiding citizens.Făkünamę wrote:The reason for criminal on criminal violence is pretty simple: they cannot go to the civil authorities to settle their disputes.

I'm perfectly happy for criminals to shoot each other. Unfortunately, they too often shoot innocent people in the process, so we really need to dispose of them quickly, which means arming the citizenry and declaring outlawry on known criminals wherein they can be shot on sight by any citizen...for a reward.
I also think when we arrest them and convict them, we should set them to a gladiatorial contest against each other. We can televise them. Trial by combat, so to speak, with the winner getting a lavish cell with lots of food and women (or men) to screw while serving their sentence.

I'll take the lower murder rate rather than your mystical "liberty"
Plenty of hunting goes on at Oz, and we often win medals for target shooting at the olympics, so we're not exactly a "no gun" society...

I think it's funny that the UK Olympic pistol team can't practice in the UK because their guns are banned.JimC wrote:I'll take the lower murder rate rather than your mystical "liberty"

If so, definitely a bit absurd...Seth wrote:I think it's funny that the UK Olympic pistol team can't practice in the UK because their guns are banned.JimC wrote:I'll take the lower murder rate rather than your mystical "liberty"

Plenty of pistol ranges here - club shooters have to keep their guns locked up at the club house, but we have had international success in many gun sports. I am certainly not against sporting shooting in its various forms...

If this subject will ever be addressed honestly (absent of personal ideology), people need to recognize these sorts of things. Of course, this will likely never happen.
Criminals self-police. It gets reported as gun-violence, murders, etc.. That's the way of things. I don't see any other way of doing things either. Pragmatically speaking. I do not, however, advocate vigilantism and I'm certainly opposed to this notion of 'bounty hunting' criminals. It can only encourage further lawlessness in its pursuit and the revival of the 'way of the gun' it would necessarily inspire. Justice and the laws that support it would suffer greatly.I'm perfectly happy for criminals to shoot each other. Unfortunately, they too often shoot innocent people in the process, so we really need to dispose of them quickly, which means arming the citizenry and declaring outlawry on known criminals wherein they can be shot on sight by any citizen...for a reward.

Seriously.. I'm assuming this was a joke.
Re: Guns Because
I'm a bit ignorant of Oz gun laws, I admit.. an ex-Candian Forces buddy wanted to sell me his guns because he was moving to Oz with his family (his wife was from Oz). From that I assume it's somewhat more rectally bound up than Canada.

Re: Guns Because
Today was day one of the Anaconda Veterans for Veterans Stand Down. We passed out stuff.
This was what I got.

I'm a Vet and I have been part of the planning for this event for months. I am also the Volunteer Coordinator this year and working the event. I'll be back to do it again tomorrow.
We received >52 pallets/4x4x4 crates of stuff that was made available to US Veterans free of charge. They picked up a bag at the door and stuffed it as they moved along the tables. Being a Vet and worker I got to stuff a bag or two myself.
Interesting thought I had, we passed out gear to veterans of three counties, a few hundred people at least. Tomorrow we open it up to whomever. If we, as citizens have to go guerilla, at least we are outfitted courtesy of the government.
The image includes a link to my Flickr page where there are notes about what everything is.
The grey jacket on the right has velcro patches on both shoulders. I'm going to put a III% patch on one and a Don't Tread on Me on the other.
