Have a smoke and relax. At least we're not quartering troops in your homes.

I got'cher gun culture right here...
Rifle Colorado Restaurant Encourages Customers And Employees To Carry Guns
You read that right, the town is called Rifle.
You read that right, the town is called Rifle.
...customers are invited to bring their guns to Shooters Grill, reports the Post Independent.
“We encourage it, and the customers love that they can come here and express their rights,” Lauren Boebert told the paper. “This country was founded on our freedom. People can come in carrying their gun, and they can pray over their food.”
Even the staff is armed, with waitresses taking orders while carrying handguns in holsters strapped to their legs.
A sign on the front door reads, “Guns are welcome on premises. Please keep all weapons holstered, unless the need arises. In such cases, judicious marksmanship is appreciated.”
...
...some have asked if the guns the workers carry are real or part of a costume. “No, they’re real and they’re loaded, and we know what we’re doing,” she said. “I fear for anyone who tries to rob us.”
But here’s the thing about rights. They’re not actually supposed to be voted on. That’s why they’re called rights. ~Rachel Maddow August 2010

Green with envy. Obviously.
Then again, he apparently comes from a culture that saw fit to introduce massive regulation in response to a single incident. You know, so everyone would feel safer.

Well, everybody both is and feels safer, as we look from a distance at your litany of gun deaths...piscator wrote:Green with envy. Obviously.

Re: Another shot at the case against gnus
Why do our internal affairs so incense people who a) don't live here b) aren't going to visit here and c) are not affected in any way, shape or form by said internal affairs? Honestly, why are you so pissed off? Fuck, y'all do all sorts of things we wouldn't do, like let asylum seekers rot in gulags while we let every Tomas, Ricardo and Enrique swim across the river to mow our lawns. You had a "whites only" immigration policy far, far, far longer than we did. Hell, we even went to Africa and brought a few million over by force, just to show our commitment to cultural diversity.
Jim, your son and his partner just visited the States. I'm sure they saw thousands of people brandishing assault rifles, dozens of short order cooks murdered for burning the hash browns and shoot outs on Main Street at noon. How could you let them even think of visiting such a barbaric, backwards, inbred place?

At least in part, it's a reaction to Seth calling people in Oz "slaves" because we don't worship at the Holy Church of the Gun...laklak wrote:Why do our internal affairs so incense people who a) don't live here b) aren't going to visit here and c) are not affected in any way, shape or form by said internal affairs? Just look at how much stricter their gun laws have become since 96. This has presumably been a domestic need in response to a declining crime and firearms crime rate?laklak wrote:Why do our internal affairs so incense people who a) don't live here b) aren't going to visit here and c) are not affected in any way, shape or form by said internal affairs? It's a reactionary response to shittons of American news by people who think daily helicopter video chases go down in a little mom & pop shop like their countries. It would be like you subtly transposed everything on CNN as happening in Escambia County, or something.
That, and Auzzies don't rinse the soapy bubbles off their dishes. They just pull the dish out of the dirty fkn dishwater and put it in the drying rack. I can't believe how often I see that in Australia.

Our gun laws, at least in terms of hand-guns, have always been very strict - that has not been a reaction to anything...piscator wrote:Just look at how much stricter their gun laws have become since 96. And what you people don't get (I think it's a blind spot) is how incredibly bizarre this whole "open carry" thing appears from the outside. I know that to Americans, the US is the whole universe, and other countries are just a faint rumour, but try to understand that from the perspective of modern democracies world-wide, your gun culture is truly a weird and crazy phenomenon...

Just speaking for myself, I am neither incensed nor pissed off by your gun culture. While I agree that, though, that our 1996 firearm restrictions are way over the top, and furthermore, apart from the apparent elimination of mass killings, do nothing about "gun problems" in particular and the incidence of crime in general, I prefer the relative lack of perceived need to carry arms in Australia to your environment. I also think that comprehensive and universal background checks and licensing as well as registration of each weapon's ownership and requirements for sturdy lockup storage is desirable and beneficial.laklak wrote:Why do our internal affairs so incense people who a) don't live here b) aren't going to visit here and c) are not affected in any way, shape or form by said internal affairs? All of which is utterly inhumane, disgusting and shameful. What is worse, these policies have and had the support of all major parties, and we keep voting them into office. Australia was and remains a xenophobic and racist country. I see no problem with pointing that out, regardless of whether the finger-pointers live in Australia or not. I regard every little bit of pressure by any means to change attitudes and policies is a good thing.laklak wrote:Fuck, y'all do all sorts of things we wouldn't do, like let asylum seekers rot in gulags. What I do mind is that insular, ideologically blinkered, hectoring soap-box artist habitually condemning an entire nation in most hyperbolic manner because it fails to qualify as a member of his delusional, dystopic ideal of lobertardianism. Of course I won't identify him directly. Suffice to say that the initials of his pen name are Seth Richardson.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein’s brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops. - Stephen J. Gould

I think "open carry" is a bizarre lifestyle choice fostered by a tiny goofy fringe element. If you want to concentrate on that splinter of losers and benchwarmers, flog away. But you're not really working with an accurate representation.

Tell that to Gallstones - she thinks they're vital, and fills threads like this with posts about open carry, concealed carry, and, for all I know, carry up one's arsehole...Piscator wrote:

And most of it is fostered by the US gun industry's lobbying and information networks. Gallstones is here for entertainment, same as you. If you really want to change American law, you have to give us New Zealand in return, or at least Tasmania.

Re: Another shot at the case against gnus
No, you're slaves because you have allowed your government to take away from you the ultimate means of taking control of the aforesaid government should it turn on you, as has happened again and again and again in history.JimC wrote:At least in part, it's a reaction to Seth calling people in Oz "slaves" because we don't worship at the Holy Church of the Gun...laklak wrote:Why do our internal affairs so incense people who a) don't live here b) aren't going to visit here and c) are not affected in any way, shape or form by said internal affairs?
