The point of this thread seems to have gone over your head, or else (more charitably) you didn't read the OP which directly addresses Texas Open Carry demonstrations.

BTW open carry of rifles is very uncommon and is rather contentious among the majority of firearm enthusiasts and carry supporters.
The main point of this thread is the extremely amusing de-rails! :{D

Exactly. It's a thread about guns.

Most ordinary gun owners that I know wouldn't dream of such obnoxious displays. I actually fully agree with the NRA on this particular.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

So do I.

Then again, LE in Texas is directly responsible for the demonstrations because they have been harassing and arresting people ILLEGALLY for openly carrying rifles in RURAL areas and the activists are making a salient point to the police that Texas law makes it explicitly lawful to openly carry a rifle almost ANYWHERE.

When Texas police officers get the message and quit with their petty tactics of harassment I expect gun owners will simmer down.

Chris Cox was not representing the NRA, he was making a personal statement. He happens to be the head of the NRA ILA, a separate political lobbying organization from the NRA proper.

Actually, if they aren't already, they will be soon as illegals continue to flood over the border like rats leaving a sinking ship in order to make it olly-olly-all-in-free before Obama does his Executive Amnesty bit.

Gosh, it almost sounds like a California gold rush, or settlers coming into Mexican Texas, or something! :tea:

There have been several since Jack London left, broke and scurvy scarred, "Passing coal" in the engine room to pay for his trip back to Oakland. WWII was quite the boom time here, with several notable citizens like Jay Hammond and Bill Poland and Walter Hickle coming into the country during that era.

And before the Trans Alaska Pipeline, there was fishing...

Somewhat left of my POV, but the author makes some valid points.

Both Sides are Wrong in the Gun Debate ~Pascal-Emmanuel Gobry 06.16.14
The situation is vastly more complex than partisans claim.

In the wake of several fatal shootings that have once again unnerved Americans, partisans on both sides are trotting out the same tired narratives. Liberals declare that if only we regulated and banned guns like Europe does, there wouldn't be any more gun violence. Conservatives insist that the solution to gun violence is more guns, and just more guns.

Both of these narratives fail to take into account inconvenient facts, and in the end, both sides are wrong. Here are five critical facts that greatly inconvenience the simple narratives they are peddling.
Five Facts at the link.
