Where does it begin?
History?
At what point does prehistory end and history begin?
At what point does prehistory end and history begin?
I run with scissors. It makes me feel dangerous
Re: Where does it begin?
Pre-history is the period right before any written records.

Hieroglyphs are. Not sure about cave painting. They usually are just pictures of animals and not actual accounts of people at the time.Deep Sea Isopod wrote:So when does the written records begin?

If you can sound it out to make sentences, it's a written language. Ideograms and pictograms counts. Painting of critters don't.Animavore wrote:Hieroglyphs are. Not sure about cave painting. The only thing a picture of a critter might tell you is what they hunted.

Re: Where does it begin?
Not tricky. Men write history. (They even let women do it now.) Technical histories like the sequencing of volcanic eruptions are simple collections of datum points in a coherent order. Politeness allows the use of the term "history", but then I've never been bend-over-backwards about politeness.Animavore wrote:But contradicts thisGawdzilla wrote:Good by me.Animavore wrote:[
