Falklands War: HMS Coventry
I've just been watching this video clip, featuring the events leading up to HMS Coventry being lost in the Falklands War:
One for 'Zilla to peruse at leisure methinks.
incidentally, the Royal Navy appears to have learned from this. The new Type 45s coming into service, replacing the now ancient Type 42s (of which Coventry was an example), are specifically designed to deal with a range of air threats instead of just one type of air threat, and its radar allows multiple targets to be tracked and engaged simultaneously. Add to this the installation of vertical launch systems for both short range and long range surface to air missiles, and the response time is reduced to near-instantaneous when the VLS tubes are loaded. The VLS system on the new Type 45s comprises 48 cells, all cells capable of accommodating either short range or long range missiles according to tactical need. VLS means no reload time unless you're facing squadrons of attackers.

Is that the same as the BBC Sea of Fire documentary I wonder?

Probably not. Discovery Channel. Unless they borrowed the BBC material to make theirs.

That's the NatGeo Channel, Cali, and they do a lot of sharing with the Beeb.Calilasseia wrote:Probably not. Discovery Channel. Unless they borrowed the BBC material to make theirs.

Correct. It's probably edited a bit, as the original BBC version is just under an hour long.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:That's the NatGeo Channel, Cali, and they do a lot of sharing with the Beeb.Calilasseia wrote:Probably not. Discovery Channel. Unless they borrowed the BBC material to make theirs.

US programs have 48 minutes of content. If any.klr wrote:Correct. Re: Falklands War: HMS Coventry
A lot of recent Attenborough programs are about 50 minutes long, with a 10-minute "behind the scenes" feature broadcast straight afterwards. Makes it easier to cut down the main program for US viewing.
