I imagine the circle marks a good spot of some sort. Whether it's a good spot for watching the stars, or it's above some useful natural resources, or is the nexus of a bunch of convenient paths towards useful stuff...

I imagine the one-time villagers who settled there figure the same thing. Plus, they might have believed in the "vibes," or "protection from supernatural forces."

It's clearly at the junction of several Ley lines. You can tell because they only built these things at the junction of several Ley lines.

Well, sure, ley lines. But I was talking about real things that are good to live near. Seems they often coincide with the ley lines, oddly enough.

And yes, I'm being somewhat facetious. Because ley lines aren't real. but geographical formations and such are.

According to this, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ley_line , ley lines are drawn in part along supposed alignments of land forms.

All I was saying is that there are a lot of reasons people might find it useful to live near a ridge, or an outcropping of stone, or what have you, without there being any magical explanation.
