Re: Toward a New Foundation
Ok, spent a day just doing work and letting this all sit at the back of the mind. I think its important to separate the foundation, with its mission statement and trustees, from the Richard Dawkins promotional web site. I feel that we want to support the former but don't have to be part of the latte...

Re: First reaction by Richard Dawkins.
Bella, would you put an ugly photo of yourself up as your avatar please, or wear a jihab or something. Your avatar is very distracting and bad internet behaviour by happily married men like myself will be all your fault.

Re: First reaction by Richard Dawkins.
I feel very annoyed that he is being misled with false information from (probably) Andrew Chalkley in order to cover up his incompetence. Until Richard has the full picture of what has happened and why, he'll just respond to the lies he's being fed. Peter’s blog post seems like a pretty good summar...

Re: First reaction by Richard Dawkins.
Editorial control, mark you, by the person who, more than any other individual, has earned the right to the editor’s chair by founding the site in the first place, then maintaining its high standard by hard work and sheer talent. Good grief! Not only did Josh NOT contribute to the content o...

Re: Toward a New Foundation
DanDare, what can you and I agree on? If you want to start a group of some kind to promote reason and science, I am interested. Me and my hundred bucks need more information, though. What would our association (you and I, at the moment) be aiming for? How would the money be used to further our goal...

Re: Toward a New Foundation
I have posted a blog on Atheist Nexus. Its about the difference between the old forum and why it was good and the mismatch with what has been proposed, and asks where to from here.

Re: Toward a New Foundation
I don't think we can just make a new forum somewhere and see what comes next. We need a goal in mind that will enthuse the refugees and guide our development. Funds we raise need to first pay for the hosting, secondly pay for marketing to bring new people and build the new community. With that we al...

Re: Richard… an ex-fan speaks out!
I don't think that Ratz could sustain this level of membership and retain its character. While I have been a member for some time, I still see this as a sort of staging post, while we gather our forces and our thoughts and work out what to do next. I hadn't thought much beyond just getting the word...

Re: Poll about the impact of the purge
What he does with his forum is up to him, whether I chance to like it or not. +1 I've learned long since that forums are transitional things much subject to sufferance and whimsy of those actually paying the bills for their upkeep. Thus, while I symphatize with anyone who may have lost something tr...

Re: Toward a New Foundation
Well, its been a day now. I've slept and had a chance to take stock. Here are some thoughts. The RDF was set up with a number of serious goals in mind: http://richarddawkinsfoundation.org/foundation,ourMission They didn't realise it but I believe that the forum community was the beating heart of tha...

Getting the News Out
Are people contacting news organisations etc. about all this? Who do you think should be contacted? Is there a picture emerging as a story to tell? This was the first article my business partner, who is journalist, wrote last night: http://www.casualravings.com/?p=67 He is now making phone calls and...

Re: Toward a New Foundation
By all means start your own site. I wish you luck and, if it's any good, I will support it. However, I get the distinct impression that the understanding of most in the thread was that Rationalia was to be the basis for this vision - there have been comments in the thread to that end. Yes, I got th...

Re: Announcement about RDF Part 2.
Just something that has puzzled me for a while nowand it may have nothing to do with anything: The former RD.net forum veteran member FedUpWithFaith whom I always respected for his wit and intelligence stormed off rather suddenly over a year ago now I think, while the former Admin ObscuredByClouds ...

Re: Toward a New Foundation
On the OP, I am completely opposed to micro-payments, or any other type of compulsory payment scheme for this site. It is payed for completely by voluntary contributions and that works very well. People are here because they want to be - because it is a community - and they pay for the same reason....

Re: Toward a New Foundation
ostensibly the same as RDF. It is a worthy cause but I think it just shot itself in the head. Maybe it is, but tbh I never really understood what the cause was there, either. Promotion of Richard Dawkins? Just a guess. Nah, I never donated funds for that. The aims of the foundation where to p...
