I'm sure he would have made a good dancer. Then the Romans might have invited him to their orgies, and Chrisitans would be hedonist muthafuckas.
What if the world had been the centre of the universe?

Re: How far should our lack of respect for religion go?
Classic, Seraph - it makes me laugh again and again. I have to admit to having no respect for religion, and if someone brings it up, I'll challenge. Otherwise, I mainly couldn't be bothered, though there are some exceptions - I get really shitty about the obvious advantages given to religions in our...

Re: Compassion in World Farming
I realise this is a total derail by now - please someone split if appropriate. Seth - I know you see the world as being fit for human destruction, so don't even know why I bother. Yet I do wish to make a few points: First: biodiversity in soil is not merely a count of the plant species in the soil. ...

Re: Compassion in World Farming
HSeth: I'd like to disclose that I am a enivronmental engineer with a bachelor and masters, currently 3 years into a PhD. My field of expertise is soil chemistry, so I think I know a lot about this. In fact, I am an expertise in soil chemistry and ecology, especially nutrient cycling in the soi-plan...

Re: Compassion in World Farming
I find myself agreeing with Seth here. :o The 'organic' business is not based on science...The basic problem with organic agriculture is that it is based on dogma, not science. I think you should clarify this. Perhaps the organic business didn't grow out of science, but there is science to support ...

Re: Compassion in World Farming
In Australia, beef and lamb at least are raised on pasture rather than feed-lots. Also, our household only buys free-range chickens and eggs, whichever comes first... This is really dependant on the farm and supplier. In NSW/VIC, Coles (and I assume Woolies is similar) has semi-intensive cattle far...

Re: physics / maths
WRT to infinity: we learnt in maths that infinity isn't so much an entity as a concept - i.e. the concept that there are a never ending number of numbers, because you can always add (or subtract) a one to a number. Negative numbers don't actually exist either (or when did you last have minus 6 kg of...

Re: Aussie Open 2012
OMGOMGOMG - I saw soo much live, and had such a great time, and now I can say that I have seen Federer (beat Ivo karlovic, which was impressive and nerve-wracking, and wonderful). I also saw Andy Murray beat Edouard Roger-Vasslin in the second round. I hadn't been a great fan of Murray but have chan...

Re: Aussie Open 2012
Just getting day passes to the outside courts, and will take one session at the Rod Laver Arena and one at Hisense - so it'll be pot luck who is playing on the day. I don't really care - I just love tennis, without being a fan of anyone in particular (though I do want a glimpse of Federer. Even thou...

Re: Home Schooling
Sorry - only did a fly-by of this thread, so I may be repeating other peoples issues. All the home-school parents I've met have been fundy Xtians who want to protect their kids from the big bad world (i.e. the truth about evilution, which is compulsory in school here). I have for some time now stron...
