Re: WTF, Evolution?
I think that's of those species where they usually have two chicks, and once it's clear one will survive (usually the oldest), the other is basically neglected by the parents and harassed to death by its sibling. Correct! It was featured in the latest Attenborough series: "Africa"...very much worth...

Re: Are you scientifically literate?
I lost interest about halfway through, partly because it was too easy, partly because of how slow it was. None of the questions I came across were further advanced than basic school science. I passed it to both my kids, and they said much the same, though neither consider themselves particulary scie...

Starting on The Tell-Tale Brain: A Neuroscientist's Quest for What Makes Us Human by V.S Ramachandran. I'd be interested in your opinions on that when you've read it, anna - it's been on my wish list since it came out, but not made it to the buying stage yet! I did enjoy his "Phantoms in the brain"...

Re: Predictions: Who will be the GOP Candidate?
Mitt Romney looks like the most likely presidential candidate, yes. It would be a mistake for him to pick Chris Christie for the VP slot, though. He appeals to the same people Romney appeals to, so he would not increase the probability of a win in the general election. Romney's best bet would be to...

Green Bay have conceded more yards than they've gained, over the season, and they're 14-1? Weird!

Re: On RatZ, what do the words "the catholic church" mean?
The current and historical organisation - the "employees, directors, and CEO" if you like. I don't tend to include its "members/shareholders" when using the term - I'd probably say "the church and its members" or use the term "catholics" for those (and I was one). Whether it's historical or current...

Verdict? Brilliant. Stuff I hadn't got my head around explained really well and entertainingly. Makes me want to take maths A level for a hobby ! Edit: just finished typing the above and an advert for washing powder with 'quantum action' came on the telly! *sigh* Excellent programme, as always with...

Re: Another Virginia Tech Shooting
Y And in most departments, standing by watching someone being attacked would get the officer fired or suspended, and would likely bring much opprobrium upon him or her by his fellow officers, but at the same time, most police officers understand that there is no requirement that they throw away the...
