Re: Highest Paid Teachers Reject 16% Raise - Go on Strike.
If those numbers are even close to true, and they rejected a 16% raise over 4 years, fire every last one of the fuckers. The numbers are misleading; "averages" are not the same as means, for example, I'm betting if you took the mean salary for a teacher in Chicago it would e a lot less than 70,000 ...

Well yeah, it's right there in the name so I think you can assume that's the perspective from which the other issues are being approached...Red Celt wrote:The word "atheism" wasn't mentioned. Re: The Atheism Plus "movement" -- good, bad, ugly?
I'm really keen on AHermit's explanation of this bizarre fucking...stuff. I sense it will be a lulu. Well it seems pretty simple to me; it's a site dedicated to talking about sexism, racism and harassment; it makes sense, if you are going to ralk about a specific incident d=for example, to let pepl...

Re: The Atheism Plus "movement" -- good, bad, ugly?
And just to remind you dear Robert, they threatened to release personal information. You're full of shit. "They" did no such thing. One person, a name no one recognized, threatened to do that in PZ's comments, everyone jumped on them and the comment was deleted. It's lies like that one that are per...

Re: The Atheism Plus "movement" -- good, bad, ugly?
A Hermit, I believe I'm done with this conversation... Promise this time? :blah: I've explained to you why the examples you've posted are not really representative of the situation, all of them being taken out of context, misrepresented or pure fantasy. You want to talk about creationist tactics? Y...

Needs more boobs. http://freethoughtblogs.com/blaghag/2012/08/how-i-unwittingly-infiltrated-the-boys-club-why-its-time-for-a-new-wave-of-atheism/ I’ve always considered myself a feminist, but I used to be one of those teenagers who assumed the awesome ladies before me had solved everything. But Boo...

Re: The Atheism Plus "movement" -- good, bad, ugly?
What I was saying is that I don't see why people who have issues with A+ are targeting the fact that she stepped down from blogging. Maybe because they're immature little twits who love to twist the knife... All I was saying earlier is that if she loves writing for her blog as much as she says, why...

Re: The Atheism Plus "movement" -- good, bad, ugly?
So according to RW, everyday life is not a safe space for women? In the sense that they tend to face a lot of harassment and bullshit that they shouldn't have to put up with, yes. Deacon Duncan described it as "sexual panhandling". one or two little incidents may not seem so bad but when you have t...

Re: The Atheism Plus "movement" -- good, bad, ugly?
I don't blame Jen McChreight for quitting her blog if the comments were triggering her chronic depression. I'm not sure why she didn't just keep on writing, and shut off comments-- but maybe she has her own reasons. Well she does explain them here...http://freethoughtblogs.com/blaghag/2012/09/goodb...

Re: The Atheism Plus "movement" -- good, bad, ugly?
Again you attempt to rewrite history. Why was RW blamed for declining attendance? Because she was part of the group that was claiming TAM was an unsafe environment for women. She specifically stated, " This is quite obviously not a safe space for me or for other women who want to be free of the gen...

Re: The Atheism Plus "movement" -- good, bad, ugly?
Gosh, really? That's why women speakers cancelled their plans to attend? Even though it was "no worse than life in general", they felt it wasn't safe enough to attend? Huh. Either you haven't been paying attention, or you're trying to recreate history. You have it wrong. Rebecca Watson decided not ...

Re: The Atheism Plus "movement" -- good, bad, ugly?
A Hermit, I don't think it's so much "sloppy, lazy, dishonest generalization" as it is based on personal experiences and overall impressions. Members of the Skepchicks group have claimed that sexual harassment is sooooo rampant in the atheist/skeptic community, that women were secretly warning each...
