Re: 27 dead at Connecticut school, including 14 kids

This impacted me more than it should I suppose. I always consider myself fairly logical but this incident moved me to near tears. A man, most likely with a medical illness, went into a classroom and killed every single child in sight. Just to think about the entirety of it is horribly sad. Kids love...

Re: Tea Party vs Occupy Wall Street

I'd say the Occupy Wall St. movement has already succeeded. They've created and maintained a national and worldwide discussion on economic inequality, a discussion that wasn't really happening two months ago. They're there first and foremost to call attention to economic injustice; if any policy ch...

Re: Discuss...

In my opinion, an opinion based on zero evidence is not worth shit. "What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence." Didn't you read? It's an opinion, not an assertion. An opinion is an assertion. Calling it an opinion rather than the other is simply trying to ...

Re: A conversation with Koko the talking gorilla

I don't understand your point, Charlou. I don't see this as all that exploitative nor repugnant. To further that, I don't see it as an attempt to humanize an ape. When I first learned about it in an anthropology class I saw it as a scientific study that furthered our knowledge of great apes. Nothing...

Re: Uninsured Father Dies of Toothache

I love the assumptions Seth makes. I wish there was a god at times. I would pray to have Seth put in the place of people he labels deadbeats and idiots.

Let me amend that. I wish there was a hell for Seth to go to.

Re: Alternate History: Brits Recognize Confederacy in 1862

Well CES, the founding of the empire does necessarily mean they have to act the same way for every choice, as you well know. Funny enough I just finished a book on the civil war where it seem rather close to an official recognition by the British government. At first glance I was going to say that o...

Re: Slaughtering and eating cats (NSFW?)

It is objectively true the the raising and slaughtering of animals for our eating habits causing excessive pain to them. I would say it would be equivalent to torture. These things are factually true: 1) Animals can feel pain and suffer 2) The massive amounts of livestock we raise to eat does harm o...

I am pondering the connection between Kr and the lovely Millefleur. If we lived in similar locations I'd offer you one of my own cocktails but for now a smile, hello and welcome will have to do.
